'Every big breeder wanted a cut of the action' - the inside story of Dubai Millennium and his immense legacy

This weekend’s Dubai World Cup marks the 25th anniversary of a result that has quickly become the stuff of thoroughbred legend. And Dubai Millennium’s famous romp in the Nad Al Sheba Group 1 is far from the only remarkable chapter in the tale.
That epoch-defining success was followed by triumph and tragedy, and, against all odds, a sireline that is now having a profound impact the world over. But then Dubai Millennium always was something completely out of the ordinary – even down to the circumstances surrounding his prophetic name.
The blue-blooded son of Seeking The Gold was initially named Yaazer, but, in an amazing act of foresight, that was changed after Sheikh Mohammed asked trainer David Loder to identify the best young prospect in his stable that year. No mean feat considering Middle Park Stakes winner Lujain was also among the same two-year-old intake, but a lofty home reputation underpinned connections’ considerable confidence.
