Barcelona vs Inter predictions

Hansi Flick led Bayern Munich to a league, cup and Champions League treble in 2019-20 and he is on course to repeat the feat in his first season at Barcelona.

Jules Kounde's extra-time winner sealed Barca's 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in Saturday's Copa del Rey final and they are four points clear of Real at the top of La Liga.

Flick's men have scored 37 goals in 12 Champions League matches and backing a 2-1 or a 3-1 Barca win could prove profitable in the first leg of their semi-final tie against Inter.

On paper, this match-up might resemble an attack-versus-defence training exercise. Barca have produced some dazzling football this term, along with some chaotic defending, while Inter conceded only one goal in eight league-phase matches.

However, Flick is missing injured striker Robert Lewandowski, who starred in Bayern's treble-winning campaign and has scored 36 goals in 41 starts in La Liga and the Champions League this season.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has issues of his own as the Nerazzurri have kept only one clean sheet in their last 12 fixtures.

That run includes damaging 1-0 defeats to Bologna and Roma in their last two Serie A matches, allowing Napoli to steal a march on the defending champions in the race for the Scudetto.

Inter also suffered a chastening 3-0 Coppa Italia semi-final defeat to rivals Milan last week and Inzaghi's ageing squad may be running out of steam at a crucial point of the season.

Roma had just 31 per cent of possession at the San Siro on Sunday but registered seven shots on target to Inter's two and Barca's dynamic wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, teed up by in-form midfielder Pedri, should cause the Italian visitors problems.

There have been at least four goals in 12 of Barcelona's last 15 Champions League matches but Inter must be respected after winning 2-1 away to Bayern Munich on their way to a 4-3 aggregate success in the quarter-finals.

Barca beat Bayern 4-1 in the league phase, also winning 5-4 in an extraordinary game at Benfica, and they thumped Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the quarter-final first leg.

Serhou Guirassy's hat-trick gave BVB a 3-1 win in the return leg so there should be chances for in-form Inter forwards Lautaro Martinez and, if fit, Marcus Thuram.

Inzaghi's Inter are a competitive, well drilled unit but they have looked flat since knocking out Bayern and Barca have the pace, energy and attacking quality to establish a valuable first-leg lead.
