District TT New Mexico: Silver 1986
    District TT California: Bronze 2003
  • Current Ride: 2008 Wilier Le Roi - Dura Ace 10
  • First Racing Bike: An early 1970's Atala - Steel and sprayed British Racing Green. Soon moved up to a svelte Zullo with Shimano 600EX. Mmmm. Best Christmas present ever.
  • First Race: Mesilla Valley RR - Citizens junior category - 1st place. Raced with all the adults and hung in for the sprint. I was only 14! Hooked ever since.
  • Qualified and attended National RR as a junior in 1986. Course - Morgul Bismarck (yes it was hard). Some dude named Bobby Julich wiped me off the floor.
  • Trained at the Olympic Training Center in CO Springs in early 1988.
  • Qualified and attended National Crit, ITT and TTT in 1989: Park City, UT
  • Qualified and attended National Crit, ITT and RR in 1991: Qualified top 15 in my RR heat. Outlasted many favorites in the RR before the field was whittled down to a precious few. Winner: Lance Armstrong.
  • Best ITT (40KM): 52:28 in 1991
  • 1st place: La Corrida Albuquerque SR as a Junior.
  • 1st place numerous races as a junior throughout the New Mexico district. Raced one year as a senior Cat 3 before upgrading to Cat 2. Raced many tough races as a Cat 2 including La Vuelta de Bisbee (when it was invitational only), Tour of the Gila (when it was P/1/2), Durango-Silverton RR, Tour of the Sun and many more. Semi-retired in 1992 to concentrate on graduating college. Entered Navy Officer Candidate School in 1993 and active duty until 1999. Didn't really lift a pedal in anger during that period. Then I started racing more seriously again in 2000, but alas I haven't been able to string together a season of good trainig yet.
  • Favorite Beverage: Bombay Tonic
  • Favorite Race: Then or now? NOW: Anything flat, preferrably a RR. THEN: Gila Inner Loop stage (not flat)
  • Favorite Training Ride: Anything in the Berkeley Hills
  • Talents, Hobbies, Tidbits: Playing guitar and listening to music that doesn't suck
  • Blog or website: Who has the time for that? You need to be out riding!
  • Mary Ann or Ginger? Betty Rubble
  • If you were a character in a movie, who would you be? Sometimes Dante, sometimes Randall.
  • If you were a fruit, what would you be and why? Mango - "Man, look at him go..."
  • Favorite Cyclist: Stephen Roche
  • You can quote me: My how I miss down-tube shifters, but not toe straps...
